About Compress Image to 50KB
Compress an image to 50KB or under with a quality search in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
Forms that say “max 50KB” don’t care what quality slider you used—they care about the file size. Drop any common still here; the page re-encodes to JPEG and searches for the highest quality that still fits under 50KB.
Fifty kilobytes shows up constantly on government and university forms. It’s enough for a small portrait or a cropped scan if you let the encoder work, and too little for an untouched holiday photo.
The loop is a binary search on quality, then stepwise downscaling when quality alone can’t get there. Output is always JPEG (transparency becomes white). For a free-form KB target instead of a fixed 50KB page, use Compress to target size.
How to use Compress Image to 50KB
- 1Drop your image onto the panel, or click to browse.
- 2Leave the target at 50KB; this page doesn’t ask you to type a number.
- 3Click Compress to 50KB and wait while the tab tries several encodes.
- 4Check the printed output size against your portal’s limit, then submit the download.
What it won't do
- Output is lossy JPEG only; transparency is flattened.
- Dimensions may shrink if quality alone can’t reach 50KB.
- Metadata (EXIF, etc.) is stripped by the re-encode.
Common questions
How do I compress an image specifically to 50KB?
Use this page: it re-encodes as JPEG and binary-searches quality until the file is at or under 50KB. If that isn’t enough, it shrinks the dimensions and tries again. Guessing a quality slider by hand is the slow version of the same loop.
Does the Compress Image to 50KB page upload my file?
No. Decode, encode, and the size checks run in this tab. After the page has loaded, you can go offline and it still works.
Does Compress Image to 50KB produce a file of exactly 50KB?
No—at or under. The search keeps the best attempt that still fits. Hitting the ceiling exactly isn’t possible with discrete quality steps, and you wouldn’t want to waste the last few bytes on padding.
What if Compress Image to 50KB still finishes over budget?
The page downloads the smallest attempt and says it missed. Crop unused edges, start from a smaller source, or use Resize first. Some limits are too small for the picture you have.
Does transparency survive Compress Image to 50KB?
No. Output is JPEG, so alpha is flattened onto white. If you need a transparent file under a size cap, a JPEG target page can’t help—you’d need a different format and usually a different limit.

Why this one doesn't upload your file
There is no server to upload to. This page is a static file, and the work happens in your browser using the same graphics and WebAssembly code that renders every other site you visit. Your file is read from disk into memory, processed, and handed back as a download. Once the page has loaded you can disconnect from the network entirely and it keeps working. The longer explanation
