About CLAUDE.md generator

Draft a CLAUDE.md for a coding agent from a short form covering the project, stack, commands, structure, conventions, and boundaries.

A CLAUDE.md file is the note you leave a coding agent at the root of a repository: how the project is built, how to run the tests, which habits to follow, and what to leave alone. Agents that read it do so at the start of a session, so a few correct lines save you from repeating them every time. The form has a box for the project name, a description, the stack, commands, structure notes, conventions, and boundaries.

What you get is a plain Markdown file: a title, the description, and then a heading for each section you filled in. Lists become bullets, and commands go into a single bash code block so they're easy to copy. Empty sections don't appear. The commands box starts with npm run dev, npm test, and npm run lint as placeholders, so replace them with what your repo really uses or clear them.

It's a starting point. The page can't read your repository, so everything in the file comes from what you typed, and a vague form makes a vague file. The best versions are short and specific: the real test command, the folder an agent shouldn't touch, the one convention people keep getting wrong. Edit the download, and review it as the repo changes, because a stale instruction does more harm than none.

How to use CLAUDE.md generator

  1. 1Enter the project name and what it does.
  2. 2List the stack, and replace the placeholder commands with your real build, test, and lint commands.
  3. 3Add structure notes, conventions, and boundaries.
  4. 4Copy or download CLAUDE.md and put it in the repository root.

What it won't do

  • Seven fixed fields; sections you leave blank are omitted.
  • Doesn't scan the repo, verify commands, or add anything you didn't type.
  • Nothing is saved; download or copy before closing the tab.

Common questions

Where does the file go?

In the root of your repository, committed with the code. Agents that support CLAUDE.md read it at the start of a session. The AI rules generator can produce the same text under other filenames for other tools.

Does it read my repository?

No. It only formats what you type. It can't inspect your files, detect your stack, or check that your commands work.

How long should the file be?

As short as you can make it while covering what an agent would otherwise get wrong. Long, generic files get skimmed. A dozen specific lines usually beat a page of general advice.

Why this one doesn't upload your file

There is no server to upload to. This page is a static file, and the work happens in your browser using the same graphics and WebAssembly code that renders every other site you visit. Your file is read from disk into memory, processed, and handed back as a download. Once the page has loaded you can disconnect from the network entirely and it keeps working. The longer explanation
