About Microphone test
Check that your microphone works and watch its live sound spectrum move. Audio is analysed in your browser and never recorded or sent anywhere.
Before a call, a stream or a recording you want to know that the right microphone is picking up sound at all. This page asks for microphone access when you click Allow microphone, then draws a live graph of what the browser is hearing. Speak, clap or tap the desk and the bars rise; stay quiet and they fall back to the floor.
The graph is a frequency spectrum, not a single volume bar. Each thin column is one slice of the audio range, low pitches on the left and high ones on the right, drawn from the Web Audio API's analyser about once per frame. That makes it useful for spotting a dead or muted input, a very quiet one, or a hum that sits in the low columns. It is not a calibrated meter, so it cannot give you decibels or tell you whether your level is right for a particular app.
The page uses your system's default input. It has no device picker, so to test a different microphone, change the default in your operating system or the browser's site settings and reload. Nothing is recorded, nothing is played back, and nothing is uploaded; the stream is released when you leave the page. If the bars stay flat, the usual causes are a muted device, the wrong default input, or a blocked browser permission.
How to use Microphone test
- 1Click Allow microphone and accept the browser permission prompt.
- 2Speak or clap and watch the bars in the graph rise.
- 3If nothing moves, check your system's default input device and mute switch, then reload the page.
- 4Leave the page when you are done to release the microphone.
What it won't do
- Uses the default input device only; no device picker.
- A live spectrum for checking signal, not a calibrated level meter.
- Needs an HTTPS page and microphone permission.
Common questions
Does the mic test record or upload my voice?
No. The stream feeds the on-screen graph and nothing else. There is no recording, playback or upload code on this page, and the microphone is released when you leave.
The mic test graph doesn't move. What should I check?
Check the permission icon in the address bar, your system's default input and mute switch, and whether another app is holding the microphone exclusively. Then reload the page and try again.
Can I choose which microphone the mic test uses?
Not on this page. It opens the system default input. Switch the default in your operating system or the browser's site settings, then reload and run the test again.
Why is the mic test a spectrum instead of a volume meter?
The graph draws the analyser's frequency bins, which shows where the sound energy sits as well as whether there is any. It is a quick check that audio is arriving, not a measurement of loudness.

Why this one doesn't upload your file
There is no server to upload to. This page is a static file, and the work happens in your browser using the same graphics and WebAssembly code that renders every other site you visit. Your file is read from disk into memory, processed, and handed back as a download. Once the page has loaded you can disconnect from the network entirely and it keeps working. The longer explanation
