About Image captioner
Put one line of white, outlined caption text near the bottom of a photo and download it as a PNG. It's drawn on a canvas in your browser.
This is the plain version of the meme layout: your picture, one line of white text with a black outline across the lower part. Choose a photo, type in the caption box, and the preview updates as you type. Download saves the canvas as a PNG called captioned.png. The photo and the caption never leave the tab.
There are some limits you should know before you start. The canvas is a fixed 1080 by 1080 square and the photo is drawn to fill all of it, so a photo that isn't square is stretched to fit. Crop to a square first if the proportions matter. The caption is a single line at a fixed size, centred near the bottom edge; it doesn't wrap, so a long caption runs off the sides, and a line break typed into the box won't produce a second line. Keep it to roughly one short sentence.
What's missing is just as important: no bar caption, no top text, no font, size, or colour choices, and no way to move the text. For free-positioned text, with the choices that come with it, the add text tool under Annotate is the better fit. For top-and-bottom meme text, try the meme tool. This one is for a quick label on a square image, and does little else.
How to use Image captioner
- 1Choose a photo with the file input.
- 2Type your caption in the box and check how it sits in the preview.
- 3Click Download to save the PNG.
What it won't do
- Fixed 1080 by 1080 canvas; non-square photos are stretched.
- One unwrapped line of white text with a black outline, near the bottom.
- No font, size, colour, position, bar caption, or top text options.
Common questions
Why does my photo look stretched?
The canvas is a fixed 1080 by 1080 square and the image is drawn to fill all of it. A wide or tall photo is squashed to match. Crop it to a square with the crop tool first and the stretch goes away.
Why does my long caption run off the edge?
Captions aren't wrapped. The text is one line at a fixed size, so anything much past a short sentence gets clipped at the sides of the image. Shorten it, or use the add text tool, which lets you place several lines.
What is the difference from the Add text tool?
Add text lets you put text where you want it on the image. The captioner is a fixed layout with one line of white outlined text near the bottom and nothing to adjust. It's quicker for that one case and no use outside it.
Is the picture uploaded?
No. The file is decoded and drawn on a canvas in this tab, and the PNG is made from that canvas. You can check in your browser's network panel.

Why this one doesn't upload your file
There is no server to upload to. This page is a static file, and the work happens in your browser using the same graphics and WebAssembly code that renders every other site you visit. Your file is read from disk into memory, processed, and handed back as a download. Once the page has loaded you can disconnect from the network entirely and it keeps working. The longer explanation
