DA and HRA rates
Defaults used by the government salary calculator. Every rate is editable there — this page explains what the fields mean and when they change.

Dearness Allowance
DA = Basic Pay × DA%. The Department of Expenditure revises DA twice a year (typically 1 January and 1 July) from the AICPI-IW average. Do not treat any website's hardcoded DA as permanent fact.
Calculator default: 55% (confirm against the latest DoE OM on doe.gov.in).
50% DA rule: when cumulative DA crosses a multiple of 50% (it crossed 50% in January 2024), allowances such as Children Education Allowance and Hostel Subsidy typically rise by 25%. The calculator suggests that update when you edit DA across a threshold — it never silently overwrites your numbers.
House Rent Allowance
HRA = Basic Pay × HRA% (not on DA), subject to city-class floors. After DA crossed 50%, commonly cited rates are:
- X cities: 30% (floor ₹5,400)
- Y cities: 20% (floor ₹3,600)
- Z cities: 10% (floor ₹1,800)
HRA is not payable if government accommodation is allotted. If accommodation is available but not availed, HRA is commonly paid at 50% of the normal rate. Both cases are toggles on the calculator.
Transport Allowance
TA is a fixed monthly amount by Pay Level band and city class — not a percentage of basic. DA is also paid on TA as a separate line (DA on TA = TA × DA%). The calculator pre-fills a band default and lets you edit it.
