About Compress Signature Image to 20KB (for Govt. Forms & Exams)
Shrink a signature scan to 20KB or under for forms and exams—runs in your browser, nothing uploaded.
Exam boards and government portals often demand a signature image under 20KB. This page turns your scan or photo into a JPEG and hunts for the highest quality that still fits, so the ink stays as readable as the limit allows.
Crop tight around the signature before you start: blank paper is free bytes you don’t have. Dark ink on pale paper compresses better than a grey phone photo of a crumpled form. Transparent PNGs flatten onto white when they become JPEG.
The search runs only in this tab—binary search over quality, then smaller dimensions if quality alone can’t hit 20KB. Nothing is uploaded. If you still need to draw the signature, use the signature maker first, then bring the PNG here.
How to use Compress Signature Image to 20KB (for Govt. Forms & Exams)
- 1Drop your signature scan onto the panel, or click to browse.
- 2Crop out empty margins first if you haven’t already—less blank paper means more ink detail at the same size.
- 3Click Compress to 20KB and wait while the tab tries several encodes.
- 4Check the printed output size against your portal’s limit, then submit the download.
What it won't do
- Output is lossy JPEG only; transparency is flattened.
- Dimensions may shrink if quality alone can’t reach 20KB.
- Metadata (EXIF, etc.) is stripped by the re-encode.
Common questions
How do I get a signature file under 20KB for a portal upload?
Use this page: it re-encodes as JPEG and binary-searches quality until the file is at or under 20KB. If that isn’t enough, it shrinks the dimensions and tries again. Guessing a quality slider by hand is the slow version of the same loop.
Does compressing a signature to 20KB upload the scan?
No. Decode, encode, and the size checks run in this tab. After the page has loaded, you can go offline and it still works.
Will Compress Signature to 20KB hit 20KB on the nose?
No—at or under. The search keeps the best attempt that still fits. Hitting the ceiling exactly isn’t possible with discrete quality steps, and you wouldn’t want to waste the last few bytes on padding.
What if my signature is still larger than 20KB?
Crop tighter around the ink, use higher contrast (dark pen on pale paper), and try again. The page will still hand you the smallest attempt it managed.
Should I draw the signature here or elsewhere?
Draw or type it in Signature maker (transparent PNG), then bring that file here if the portal wants a hard KB cap. This page only compresses; it doesn’t draw.

Why this one doesn't upload your file
There is no server to upload to. This page is a static file, and the work happens in your browser using the same graphics and WebAssembly code that renders every other site you visit. Your file is read from disk into memory, processed, and handed back as a download. Once the page has loaded you can disconnect from the network entirely and it keeps working. The longer explanation
