Text to binary / hex

Convert text code points to binary or hex and back — not a number-base converter.

Runs in this tab. The file stays here.

Uses Unicode code points (codePointAt), not charCodeAt — emoji and non-BMP characters keep their full bit width. This is text encoding, not the number-base converter under Developer.

This runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

About Text to binary / hex

Convert text to binary or hex (and back) using Unicode code points — offline, distinct from number-base conversion.

The developer number-base converter turns a single number between decimal, hex, and binary. This page encodes text: each character’s code point becomes binary or hex tokens you can copy into notes or debugging sessions.

Modes cover text↔binary and text↔hex. Implementation uses codePointAt / fromCodePoint so emoji and other non-BMP characters are not silently mangled the way charCodeAt would.

Tokens are space-separated. ASCII pads to 8 bits; larger code points keep the bit length they need — called out under the output so you are not surprised.

How to use Text to binary / hex

  1. 1Choose Text→Binary, Binary→Text, Text→Hex, or Hex→Text.
  2. 2Paste or type the input.
  3. 3Copy the output. Invalid tokens show an inline error.

What it won't do

  • Not a full UTF-8 byte-stream inspector.
  • Invalid binary/hex tokens error instead of guessing.

Common questions

Is this the same as the number-base converter?

No. That tool converts numeric values between bases. This tool converts text characters to binary/hex representations of their code points.

Why not charCodeAt?

charCodeAt breaks outside the BMP. codePointAt keeps emoji and many scripts intact.

Is UTF-8 byte encoding shown?

Output is per code point in binary/hex form, with a note that multi-byte UTF-8 is a different serialization. Use this for readable code-point dumps.

Why this one doesn't upload your file

There is no server to upload to. This page is a static file, and the work happens in your browser using the same graphics and WebAssembly code that renders every other site you visit. Your file is read from disk into memory, processed, and handed back as a download. Once the page has loaded you can disconnect from the network entirely and it keeps working. The longer explanation
