About Word unscrambler

Type a jumble or a Scrabble rack and see every word you can build from it, longest first, shorter words included. It runs in your browser against a bundled word list.

This is the page for "what can I make with these?". Enter the letters you have, and it lists every word that can be built from some or all of them, with each letter used no more often than you typed it. Results are grouped under their length, with the longest group first, so the best play on a Scrabble or Words With Friends rack is at the top. Use ? or _ for a blank tile.

The anagram solver is the stricter sibling. It opens on "Use all letters" and only returns words that use every letter exactly once. This page opens on "Any length", with a minimum-length box that starts at 3 so two-letter noise doesn't bury the good words. Both pages share one engine and one list, and you can switch modes on either one, but the starting point matters: a typed jumble for a word puzzle goes here, a true rearrangement goes there.

The word list has about 12,500 common English words, so it behaves like a friendly dictionary rather than an official tournament list. Expect rare Scrabble words to be absent, and expect the odd name or place name to appear. There's no filter for words starting with a given letter or for words that contain a given letter; the controls are the mode, the minimum length, and a Copy list button.

How to use Word unscrambler

  1. 1Type the scrambled letters or your rack. Use ? for a blank.
  2. 2Leave it on Any length, and raise the minimum length to cut the short words.
  3. 3Scan from the longest group down, then copy the list if you like.

What it won't do

  • Bundled list of about 12,500 common words, two to twelve letters.
  • No pattern, starts-with, or contains filters.
  • A to Z only; blanks are ?, _ or *.

Common questions

Why is a word I know missing?

The list is a bundled set of common words. Rare Scrabble words, many plurals and inflected forms, slang, and anything newer than the list won't be in it. It's a helper for puzzles, not an official dictionary.

What is the minimum length for?

Any-length mode returns every word of at least that many letters, up to the full length of your jumble. At 3 it hides two-letter words. Raise it to see only the long plays.

When should I use the anagram solver instead?

When every letter must be used, with none left over: crossword anagram clues, word-play puzzles, renaming something. The unscrambler is for racks and jumbles where shorter words count.

Can I filter by starting letter or pattern?

No. This tool only takes a pool of letters and an optional minimum length. If you're working from coloured clues on five-letter words, the Wordle solver is the better fit.

Why this one doesn't upload your file

There is no server to upload to. This page is a static file, and the work happens in your browser using the same graphics and WebAssembly code that renders every other site you visit. Your file is read from disk into memory, processed, and handed back as a download. Once the page has loaded you can disconnect from the network entirely and it keeps working. The longer explanation
